Soccer World Cup is HERE finally after much debate , and anticipation its finally here. The streets are humming , cars have ben decorated and shops display the Flags.

If ever their was a better opportunity to show what we have then its here a chance to show the World what and who we are. From days gone by transformation is what its about. South Africa a Country divided by so much yet now once again UNITY.

To host this event is incredidible the vibe is unexplainable. What a privelage to have experienced this , South Africa we are one.

Visitors are going to be astonsihed and bewildered to see and experience that all the media does not always just the amount of bad exposure that we have had to endure for so long. Yes we have certain elements that need to be adressed but for once you can realise we as a nation will stand together and work for the better good.

To all visitors enjoy our Heritage.

Hluhluwe / Imfolozi Game Reserve News

The African Lion in Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Reserve

The African Lion in Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Reserve

In the Tourism trade or hospitality trade May each year offers us a time to reflect , relax and take a break from what it is that we do.

May is our quiet month supprisingly so that this is the best weather month in Kwa Zulu Natal , the weather is just plain awesome , no rain , no wind and most definately not HOT. Although the best weather in South Africa during this period of time we are strangely quiet. So what do we do as operators WE go to the places that you venture to each day on Safari for instance snorkel at Cape Vidal and lounge around on the Beach all day , a lot of the residants of St Lucia also take it apon themselves to go Camping at Kosi Bay and Cape Vidal to mention just a few places of interest. What else should we be doing after all we live here and should be enjoying it.

The game reserves and safaris that did however go as quiet as it may have been offered clients some unique experiences , the month of May will remain the month of the Cheetah as we had more sightings in hunting ever experienced before. This gives clients the opportunity to once again realise the wonders of the Game Reserves. Kwa Zulu Natal is a special place like most other places of interest Zululand presents it self with wildlife.

Cape Vidal ( Isimangaliso Wetlands Park ) has received much needed rain and the park will soon be transformed into a green paradise again , the Hippo pan with numerous residants where slowly moving out as the water levels dropped however we are hoping that the latest spell of rain will once again entice them back. The bay of Cape Vidal now will quickly start sanding up as winter has shown its face but please note that one can still snorkel on the banks left of the protected bay however one has to make sure that this is done with caution and within the low tides.

Numerous tropical fish may be encountered and also as Shad start to frequent the area more fisherman will be doing their thing. WHALES will also be passing the bay more regularly and this fantastic sight will be more regular as winter water cools the ocean. There is also a good hike to the whale look out tower this hike will offer you slendid views as well as the look out at Mission rocks , so should you be wanting to get out of the car and do some exercise then this ones for you. One of our guides came accross a Leopard at the top of the look out a while agon so just be cautious.

Yet another Awesome Leopard Sighting

Well Winter has started to show its face , that cool breeze and chilly cold mornings have proved that rangers do wear Jackets as well.

St Lucia , Isimangaliso Wetlands Park , Hluhluwe & Imfolozi is situated in the Kwa Zulu Natal ( Zululand ) to be more precise , and the weather year round is just perfect , winter allows us to finally pull out those old thick musty jackets , its tropical here and therefore no need to have jackets on hand.

The weekend past we experienced a bit of a cold front , yip still short pants and tshirts though just the early morning game drive and night drives that jackets are rearly seen.

The Night drive on Saterday though we where presented with an awesome sighting of a Leopard for up to 30 mins , the entire time within breathing range , with a lite drizzle and clients falling virtually out of the vehicle what more could they  have asked for. Isimangaliso Wetlands Park always seems to suprise even the experienced safari bush wacker with sightings special.

Yet another month gone by and as World Cup soccer approaches all are awaiting in abated breath of what may be and will be , GO SOUTH AFRICA

Kind regards

Isimangaliso Wetlands Authority

This week the AGM for the Elephant Coast Tourism was held in Hluhluwe ,the meeting was well represented with its members a total of 400 members.

Guest speaker at the meeting was Mr.Zoloumis from the Isimangaliso Wetlands Park, his talk involved the Park , accomplishments aswell as future proposals. Todate this Park covers an enormous area and has also received numerous upgrades including infrastructure , new loop loads , hides , electric fencing , commuters roads , additional area zoned as Park , malaria eradication and loads more.

The interesting new fact is that now to Mocambique is also part of this new park and will be within the next 2 years part of a new transfrontier park.Hence the fact that now you can say that we are part of 3 different countries 1. South Africa, 2.Swaziland, 3.Mocambique the area and possibilities of game viewing is bountyful. Up and coming additions include more roads , introduction of more wildlife and a more unique experience should one decide to visit this area.

So then lets recap on whats on offer stretching from St Lucia to Ponta de Oura what can one see , well Elephants that once roamed the area have for one been reintroduced they however decided that the Western shores offers greener pastures and ventured to that side only to our ( tour operators ) unaficial granting them to do so. Leoprads galore yes they still roam the streets of St Lucia by night , 2 weeks ago Leopard spore where seen at our Backpackers, Hippo’s grazing grass in town , bush babies getting visitors to sit up straight , red duiker once again please note that this is only the town of St Lucia. The Park offers Buffalo , Rhino white and black however Black Rhino is a bit more difficult to see as they are in the Wilderness area they are still their, Giraffe introduced into the Westeren shores , Samango monkeys at Cape Vidal really a good sighting as they are not seen in most other areas, Whales galore during the season , turtles both Leather Back and Logger Head , Bush Pig and and and the list will go on for ever.

So what does this all mean , ITS a wonderful place to spend time in Cape Vidal , Sodwana , Kosi Bay and now Ponta de Oura a new wild coast.

Come see what we have and dont forget the weather is fantastic as well.

Finally after much deliberation and debate Heritage Tours & Safaris have started a Word Press website www.gamereservehluhluwe.com this site has a unique look to it and funtionality , the reason for the site is to be more informative and to the point of what to see and what to do while travelling to the area St Lucia , Isimangaliso Wetlands Park , Hluhluwe , Imfolozi well the area of Kwa Zulu Natal.

The site offers great footage uploaded and still being uploaded , fantastic photos taken by some of our Game Rangers at Heritage Tours & Safaris , some good tips as to where to find the Big 5.

This is not a convertion site or template site this is a growing mass of informative information with relevant information. Yes the site offers safari options you might say , yes we do but the general idea is to give as much away as possible to the traveller that is going to or contemplating a self drive. It has always been the idea that oh no hes not going to be maing use of us on a safari and so we are not interested in giving information and advice. Whats stopping operators from doing this less MONEY thats what makes the world go round but this is not about that that no its giving back so that you to can get it as it is.

Please be so kind as to let us know if you get a chance to have a look and rate the site or simply drop us a email at info@stlucia.co.za and let us have it.

Further more the Park Hluhluwe has been absolutely wild Cheetahs chasing Wildebeest , Lions hunting , Leopard kill’s in trees Wild Dog hunting in packs and showing of their ability to hunt to gether.

Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife have as always stayed intune with the park and thus ensure the survival of the park.

Have an awesome time and should you be in our neck of the bush make sure you have the latest news of whats happening in the park www.gamereservehluhluwe.com will make sure of that.

Kind regards

Tar road Leopards

Once again the Ellusive Leopard was spotted last night on our Night Drive into the Isimangaliso Wetlands Park St Lucia , as the years have past in offering this unique excursion into the Park we have been very fortunate in sighting the Leopards and left many a visitor to the area with fond memories of Africa. Most sightings of these creatures have been sighted on the tar roads of the Park , ( civilised ) we say but more likely devious as other creatures are unable to hear the animal stalk and move to other areas , on other occasions during electric storms and strong winds they too have been observed more frequently.

So if you where to cancel that excursion and feel a bit concerned about the weather rather take the chance and GO you always have a chance of seeing that unique Animal the Leopard.
