This week the AGM for the Elephant Coast Tourism was held in Hluhluwe ,the meeting was well represented with its members a total of 400 members.
Guest speaker at the meeting was Mr.Zoloumis from the Isimangaliso Wetlands Park, his talk involved the Park , accomplishments aswell as future proposals. Todate this Park covers an enormous area and has also received numerous upgrades including infrastructure , new loop loads , hides , electric fencing , commuters roads , additional area zoned as Park , malaria eradication and loads more.
The interesting new fact is that now to Mocambique is also part of this new park and will be within the next 2 years part of a new transfrontier park.Hence the fact that now you can say that we are part of 3 different countries 1. South Africa, 2.Swaziland, 3.Mocambique the area and possibilities of game viewing is bountyful. Up and coming additions include more roads , introduction of more wildlife and a more unique experience should one decide to visit this area.
So then lets recap on whats on offer stretching from St Lucia to Ponta de Oura what can one see , well Elephants that once roamed the area have for one been reintroduced they however decided that the Western shores offers greener pastures and ventured to that side only to our ( tour operators ) unaficial granting them to do so. Leoprads galore yes they still roam the streets of St Lucia by night , 2 weeks ago Leopard spore where seen at our Backpackers, Hippo’s grazing grass in town , bush babies getting visitors to sit up straight , red duiker once again please note that this is only the town of St Lucia. The Park offers Buffalo , Rhino white and black however Black Rhino is a bit more difficult to see as they are in the Wilderness area they are still their, Giraffe introduced into the Westeren shores , Samango monkeys at Cape Vidal really a good sighting as they are not seen in most other areas, Whales galore during the season , turtles both Leather Back and Logger Head , Bush Pig and and and the list will go on for ever.
So what does this all mean , ITS a wonderful place to spend time in Cape Vidal , Sodwana , Kosi Bay and now Ponta de Oura a new wild coast.
